The United States, Canada, UK, France, Italy and most all countries have social programs of some sort. Do social programs make the people and countries socialists? The answer is no. There is a huge difference between social programs and a socialist economy. Social Programs in Brief Let's address social programs briefly by stating that every country has citizens who need help and assistance. Social Security Disability, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Unemployment Benefits, etc. are social programs in the U.S. to help retirees and people in need. Yes, there is fraud by both the recipients, administrators, and so on. That is a different discussion. As citizens of the U.S., we do feel we have a civic obligation for a portion of my taxes to help fellow legal citizens and (legal) immigrants in need - minus the fraud. Having social programs does not make us or anyone in this country a socialist. That's all we want to devote to this part of this article on social programs. This short paragraph about social programs is here only to help clarify that socialism is not social programs. If we understand the values and beliefs of the American political parties and understand the three economies shown in the chart we can make an informed choice about how we want to live, work and do business. The Republican Party is a conservative group who supports small government, a capitalist economy, lower taxes, lowering the spending deficit by reduction in spending, is opposed to federal sponsored healthcare, and for controlled borders/ legal immigration and are pro-life. Within the Republican Party is the Tea party who shares pretty much the same values. Why did they form? It pretty much had to do with dissatisfaction of candidates for elected office. A capitalist economy is an economic system in which capital goods (consumer goods and services) are owned by private individuals or businesses. The production of goods and services is based on supply and demand in the general market (market economy), rather than through central planning (planned economy or command economy in which the government controls and regulates production, distribution, prices, etc ). The purest form of capitalism is free market or laissez-faire capitalism, in which private individuals are completely unrestrained in determining where to invest, what to produce or sell and at which prices to exchange goods and services, operating without checks or controls. Most modern countries practice a mixed capitalist system of some sort that include government of business and industry. The Democratic Party is now comprised of liberals, progressives, a few centrists, and a growing number of members belonging to the Socialist Party of USA and the Communist Party of USA. The Democratic party has united with smaller liberal regional parties throughout the country, such as the Farmer–Labor Party in Minnesota and the Nonpartisan League in North Dakota. As of 2012 modern/ social liberals and progressives constitute the majority of the Democratic voter base. Liberals form the largest united demographic within the Democratic party. The Democratic Socialists and Communists tend to be more in line with the European socialists and communists. The Democratic party wants tougher regulation on corporations, affordable education, scientific investment and environmentalism, net neutrality, increased wages, equal pay, collective bargaining rights, defending social safety-net programs, marriage equality, immigration reform and unabridged access to reproductive healthcare. Additionally, progressives strongly oppose political corruption and therefore seek to advance electoral reform including campaign finance reform and voting rights. Today, many progressives have made a fight against economic inequality their top priority. While this may represent the wants of the progressives, it does not go far enough to satisfy the wants of the socialists and communists in the party. This group wants a socialist economy. And this is what America needs to fight against. Socialist Economy Liberal educators tell us there are many different forms of socialist economies. Of course there are. There are many big benefactors in a socialist economy and they each have their own plan of what it should be. What Might a Socialist Economy Look like in America?
A socialist economy will include us doing the most all of the work and receive a payment based upon what the benefactors think we need to survive. However, it doesn't matter what the plan is - the end result is the same - complete and total failure and collapse of the government, unemployment, food, medical care and medicines, transportation, farming, manufacturing and infrastructure. The government and the benefactors within, and associated with those within, will always ensure they have what they need and want while we, the workers, will have what THEY determine we need to survive, maybe.... The Socialist Economy is where workers self manage in the name of workplace democracy. It's complete lunacy! We all have experienced deadbeat co-workers, right? Can you imagine what it would be like with deadbeats self managing? Right now, we have the choice to leave and find work somewhere else if we don't like how we are being treated. Or, stay and put up with it because we have an incentive to continue working - raises and/or bonuses, recognition incentives, promotions, etc. In a socialist economy, there is none of this freedom to choose because we would be in a self managed workplace democracy. In a socialist economy we, the working class are all equal. So, why should I knock myself out producing when the deadbeat and I are being treated equally? Don't kid yourself into believing there will be incentives. In a socialist economy there are two classes - the rich and the working class. Please note that workers are not equal to the rich and there would be no middle class. The government class would become huge. "The Balance" has the best explanation of true socialism. To recap the Balance, socialism assumes that:
Disadvantages The biggest disadvantage of socialism is that it relies on the cooperative nature of humans to work. There is little tolerance for those who are competitive, not cooperative. Competitive people tend to seek ways to overthrow and disrupt society for their own gain. A second related criticism is that it doesn't reward people for being entrepreneurial and competitive. As such, it won't be as innovative as a capitalistic society. A third possible disadvantage is that the government set up to represent the masses may abuse its position and claim power for itself. Remember, it is a two class economy. Somewhere in this system, the wealthy prosper while workers are slaves to produce and are paid from profits by someone who will determine what those profits are and when, how and to whom they are to be paid. How will debts to other countries be paid? Let Venezuela be the model for failed socialism and let Cuba be the model for communism. We see people fleeing from these countries. We don't see people flocking to them. Margaret Thatcher had it right when she said, “Socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money.” All three of our states touching the west coast are very close to socialism. California state government declared they are a sanctuary state - not the people. A 2018 law prohibits landlords from reporting their undocumented renters; Senate Bill 257, which allows students whose parents are deported to continue attending California schools; and Assembly Bill 450, bans employers from cooperating with or allowing immigration enforcement raids at their work sites without a court order. California, a once beautiful state, now has people living in tents on residential streets. Downtown San Francisco is plagued by human feces on their street by their homeless population. The city is losing millions of dollars from conventions and tourism. San Francisco's solution: impose a corporate homeless tax upon corporations. Newsome, the state's new governor declared he is going to build 3.5m new homes by 2025 for the homeless! Who do you think is paying for that? In the meantime they misuse federal funds for repair of roads, bridges and dams which are now falling apart. Environmental lobbyists have created so many state adopted rules and regulations that there has been no forest management for fire prevention in ages resulting in egregious loss of life and homes. But yet, they pass a ridiculously stupid law fining service workers if they offer a patron a straw. California passed a bill establishing the initial stage of a “free college” program, waiving the first year of fees for any first-time student who enrolls full-time at one of California’s 114 community colleges. That promise, however, depends on the state setting aside enough money in its 2018-19 budget to cover the fee waivers. All of this while, according to an article in the LA Times by George Skelton, the state's two biggest public pension systems are badly underfunded which are The California Public Employees' Retirement System(CalPERS) and the Teachers' Pension fund(CalSTRS). They are also the largest and second-largest public pension funds in the country. Just using the official numbers, Joe Nation, former Democratic assemblyman who is now a Stanford public policy professor heading up a major public pension research project says, the unfunded liability amounts to an average of $26,000 per household. California Exodus People are leaving California. And, we ask that they please leave their liberal views behind. Instead of infecting their new states with the failed government programs that drove them out, we ask they reflect upon those programs as being the cause of their dparture. For the rest of us, we must vote and become active in local and state governments to prevent the state by state spread of socialism! Thank you for taking the time to read this. We encourage you to read and discuss them, and if you agree consider reading the full Statement of Principles and applying to join the Socialist Party USA. ▫️The Socialist Party is a democratic socialist organization. We see socialism as a new social and economic order in which workers and consumers control production and community residents control their neighborhoods, homes and school and the production of society is used for the benefit of all humanity, not the private profit of a few. ▫️We see the working class in a key and central position to fight back against the ruling class and its power. The working class is the major force worldwide that can lead the way to a socialist future – to a real radical democracy from below. ▫️We stand in opposition to all forms of oppression including but not limited to racism, sexism, ableism, and homophobia ▫️We are a multi-tendency organization. We orient ourselves around our principles and develop a common program, but our members have various underlying philosophies and views of the world. ▫️Our tactics in the struggle for radical democratic change reflect our ultimate goal of a society founded on principles of egalitarian, non-exploitative and non-violent relations among all people and between all peoples. ▫️We advocate for independent political action outside the Democratic and Republican parties. socialism fails, communism is the next progression. The government steps in to save the day. When socialism fails, the government steps in to save the country under a communistic state.
